MENDELSSOHN

An Original Musical Staged Reading

Book, music, lyrics by Jacqueline Bassan

Directed by Will Steinberger

Musical Director – Felix Jarrar

Felix Mendelssohn is a handsome musical genius. German audiences adore him, which drives composer Richard Wagner insane with jealousy. When Wagner’s beautiful daughter Elsie chooses Mendelssohn’s Wedding March for her recessional, the music of these two rivals is joined for all eternity. Forbidden love ensues when Elsie falls in love with Mendelssohn amidst the anti-Semitism of 19th century Berlin.

Though forced to abandon his faith to be part of the classical music world, Mendelssohn keeps something to call his own, against all odds: his name.

Join us for this staged reading with live band and singing actors featuring 15 original songs and classical music excerpts.

* after the show, there will be an opportunity for audience feedback/questions.
