Karen Lynn Gorney to Lead Holocaust Drama FROM SILENCE at Theater for the New City this November
Karen Lynn Gorney, star of the 1977 movie “Saturday Night Fever” and “All My Children” headlines From Silence, a brand new drama by Anne Marilyn Lucas premiering at Theater for the New City this November. Cast includes Audrey Heffernan Meyer, Krystal Rowley, Lori Funk, Nora Falk, Shannon Harrington, Tori Murray, Dina Laura and Jessica Gollin.  The production will be directed by Peter Zachari.
Esther’s world is turned upside down when her daughter Deborah rushes home with the news that their New Jersey temple is on lock down and her granddaughter Elaina is trapped inside. Esther survived the Holocaust, but never talked about it, despite the pleas from her daughter and granddaughter - it was too painful to recount that part of her life. During the endless wait, Esther comes to regret her silence and realizes her duty to tell her story, but will it be too late for Elaina to hear it?
Anne Marilyn Lucas (Playwright) has built a body of work as a playwright from a career in the theatre. Anne’s biographical musicals:Gershwin/Porter: Who Could Ask For Anything MoreIrving Berlin Loves America, and Richard Rodgers: The Sound of His Music were produced by The Marblehead Little Theatre. Say The Name, a Holocaust survivor’s memoir, was staged at Harvard University and used as a text in the Divinity School. Recovery is being work-shopped at Totally New Theatre. Dearest DoveLegacy of the Hanging Judge, and Spirits of the Gables are one act historical dramas that have been produced at The House of the Seven Gables annually since their creation in 2001. Party, Love Now And ThenSecond Chances and What You Want To Hear are one-act plays that have been work-shopped by Totally New Theatre. Accidental Death was produced by the Boston Theatre Marathon and the Firehouse Theatre. Swamiwas produced at The Leading Edge Play Festival and read at Polaris North in NYC and Lesley University. Lies My Mother Told Me was work-shopped at Wellesley College, Our Voices Festival. Other honors include: 2001 commission The House of the Seven Gables, MFA, Theatre Education, (Directing) Boston University, MFA Creative Writing, (Writing for Stage and Screen), Lesley University, Professor Salem State University Drama Dept. and Board of Trustees of the Marblehead Little Theatre. Currently commissioned to writeBest of Broadway, a history of Broadway illustrated in song.
Peter Zachari (Director) wrote, produced and directed One LoveUnder the Knife: A FarceFat Asses: The Musical, all of which premiered at Theater for the New City. He wrote and directed Parker & Dizzy's Fabulous Journey to the End of the Rainbow and The 3rd Gender for the New York International Fringe Festival. His ten-minute play, I Am Seventy Going on Eighteen was selected for production at the Boston Theatre Marathon VII.  Mr. Zachari’s additional directing credits include Into the WoodsFootlooseRumors,GreaseThey’re Playing Our SongReturn to the Forbidden Planet and Moon Over Buffalo (Summer Theatre at Salem) as well as West Side Story (Marblehead High School.)  For several years, Mr. Zachari taught Acting and Directing for the Department of Theatre at Salem State University.  He received his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Florida and his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Salem State University.  Follow Peter @PeterZachari on Twitter.
