THEATER FOR THE NEW CITY STAFF
CRYSTAL FIELD - OBIE Award winning actress Crystal Field is co-founder and Artistic Director
of Theater for the New City (TNC). Under her leadership TNC has produced
over 800 new plays which have garnered a Pulitzer Prize and over 43 OBIE
Awards for excellence in every theatrical discipline. TNC has also nurtured
the talents of Sam Shepard, Maria Irene Fornes, Romulus Linney, Richard
Foreman, Lee Breuer, Miguel Piñero, Charles Busch, Moises Kaufman
and Tim Robbins. Ms. Fields staunch belief in the civic necessity
of theater has manifested itself in the creation of several major New York
City events such as the original Village Halloween Parade, the Annual Native
American Pow-Wow and the Lower East Side Festival of the Arts. Ms. Field
is also thc Director, Author and Choreographer of TNC's award-winning 5-Borough
Annual Free Summer Street Theater Program, which tours an original musical
with an integrated company of 50 through under-served neighborhoods of New
York City. The unique multi-disciplinary format of TNCs Arts-in-Education
Program was created by Ms. Field, who continues to serve as the Project
Director. Ms. Field was a member of the original Lincoln Center Company
under the direction of Harold Clurman and Robert Whitehead. She was also
a member of the Judson Poets Theater and Andre Gregorys Theater of
the Living Arts. She won an OBIE Award for her performance in Arthur Sainers DAY OLD BREAD. Other notable performances include her work in
BIRDY, SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS, RADIO DAYS and most recently,
LAW & ORDER. Ms. Field was recently awarded the NY Posts
Liberty Community Medal for her service to the Lower East Side.
MARK MARCANTE has been the Production Manager of TNC since 1984 and was responsible for organizing the relocation of TNC in 1986. He designed the lighting, scene shop and storage facility for the new building and is currently responsible for maintaining the facility and assisting in the technical realization of TNC's 30 to 40 new plays per year, including set design for several TNC productions per year and the installation of scenic elements and lights for all of TNC's Community Festivals. He is also an instructor for TNC's Arts-in-Eduction Program. Prior to working at TNC, Mr. Marcante was theatrical and technical consultant for the Arts Connection, visiting high schools in all five New York City boroughs to advise on upgrading of school theater facilities, including auditorium design, lighting, public assembly and sound. Mr. Marcante hails from Pennsylvania and worked as technical supervisor at the Allentown Arts Center. He was also a workshop instructor for the Youth Advocate Program in Allentown, where he developed and implemented a new treatment program for encouraging self-confidence through improvisational acting. As an actor, he has led the award-winning Annual Summer Street Theater ensemble since 1986 and played lead roles in several critically acclaimed productions at TNC.
ANGELA STACH has been the Development Director of TNC since January 2009. Her primary responsibilities are funding research, grant-writing, reporting, and evaluating TNC's future financial needs and goals. She develops TNC's relationships with major funders and works closely with the board to help members fulfill their commitments to TNC's long-range fundraising plan. In addition, she trains volunteers and interns in fundraising-related tasks. Before joining TNC, Ms. Stach worked in development and public relations at UNORCA in Mexico and AbL in Germany, as part of an international network that promotes a model of peasant and family-farm agriculture based on sustainable production with local resources and in harmony with local cultures and traditions. In addition to her development duties, Ms. Stach is an instructor at CUNY and a freelance nonfiction writer and editor.
JONATHAN WEBER is the Administrator at TNC. He is in charge of the day-to-day Business Administration and Marketing of TNC. He has been at TNC since 2002. In addition to his administrative & marketing work, he is a longtime Assistant Director for TNC's Summer Street Theater tour and is also a member of the planning committees for the Lower East Side Festival of the Arts and the Love N' Courage Benefit. Among his administrative responsibilities, he is the Theater's webmaster, and is responsible for updating the content of the web site you are viewing right now. He is also in charge of TNC's Snail Mail and E-Mail lists. Mr. Weber has directed several shows in his time at TNC, and also has presented his written work at TNC's Lower East Side Festival of the Arts. Mr. Weber is also author of the popular New York Mets fan blog, The Ballclub.
RICHARD RETA is the Technical Director at TNC. He is in charge of handling most technical inquiries.
MICHAEL
SCOTT-PRICE is the Literary Manager at TNC. He is a director/creator
and artistic director of the Asteroid B612 Theatre Company. Michael has
written and directed productions presented nationally as well as in Canada,
Ireland, and England. As a playwright, Michael's play LYNCH PLAY was
selected for a performance residency at Antioch College (2006). He has studied
at the School of Physical Theatre in London, England and the Odin Teatret
in Hostelbro, Denmark. Mr. Scott-Price is a member of Lincoln Center Theater
Director's Lab. He also serves as curator of TNC's NEW CITY, NEW BLOOD Readings
Series.
