Eighteen-year-old Neshama dreams of becoming a dancer. When she is suspended from her religious school for taking dance classes, she puts her dreams on hold to create social change in her community. In her quest, she seeks support from a feminist birth education and doula organization and discovers that they are not who they advertise themselves to be. The devastating betrayal by a feminist group promising to provide space for women’s authentic voices upends Neshama’s mission. To move on, she must encounter the different parts of herself. Doula Monster unfolds in movement and dance, inviting the audience to discern between ideology and intuition.
