Crystal Field, Executive Director presents:

Hamlet in Harlem
by Alberto Ferreras

A white filmmaker organizes a reading of his urban Latino adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet”, but he is not prepared for the politically incorrect battle that will it provoke among his multicultural cast. “Hamlet in Harlem” is the laugh-out-loud, I-can’t-believe-it’s-Shakespeare comedy of the season.

Writer-Director Alberto Ferreras, known for the HBO Habla documentary series, and for the award winning novel B as in Beauty, teams up with producer Myrna Duarte and Theater for The New City, to create a hilarious comedy that questions gender roles, racial stereotypes, cultural appropriation and even Shakespeare’s motives.

The show is made possible thanks to a generous grant of New York City’s Artist Corps, and will be presented October 19th and 20th at 7:00 PM, at Theater for the New City.
