Theater for the New City Celebrates Jazz Appreciation Month with a Rhythmic Explosion of Latin Jazz

The featured trio includes an all-star lineup:

  • Chembo Corniel on congas
  • Ben Lapidus on guitar
  • Alex “Apolo” Ayala on bass

This celebration of rhythm and soul invites all jazz lovers to move their feet and feed their spirit. And of course—complementary banana puddin’ for all guests! Come ready to dance and indulge in sweet sounds and sweet treats.

About the Artists:
Wilson “Chembo” Corniel, a master conguero, has studied at premier institutions including ENA in Havana, Cuba, under jazz legend Chucho Valdez. As a performer and recording artist, Corniel has worked with luminaries such as Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, and Dave Valentin. He leads his own group, Grupo Chaworo, and founded Chemboro Records, Inc.

Alex “Apolo” Ayala, a Grammy-nominated and Latin Grammy-winning bassist, is known for his deep grooves and collaborations with the likes of Eddie Palmieri, Gilberto Santa Rosa, and Spanish Harlem Orchestra.

Benjamin Lapidus is a Grammy-nominated, Latin jazz trailblazer and Lifetime Achievement Award recipient from Latinjazz USA. His collaborations span from Buena Vista Social Club greats to jazz masters like Jeff “Tain” Watts and Ruben Blades.
