Newport is a new musical based on the extraordinary real-life events of 1919 Newport, Rhode Island. One year before the country would be facing prohibition and lockdown, a handful of specially selected sailors would become embroiled in deceit, intrigue, and betrayal. Before it was over many people (including a future president and a prominent clergy member) would be vilified across the conservative town paper’s front page by an editor who later died under mysterious circumstances. Newport uses this backdrop to create a compelling interpretation of America’s lesser-known and most intriguing scandals.
