Days and Nights Review:
https://theaterscene.org/2024/01/days-and-nights/
“Days And Nights”, written and directed by Bina Sharif, is a 2-character play that examines the hopes and fears of daily life contradicted by reality in an environment of constant uncertainty. The characters, “B” and “P” are two tramps trying to hold on to a day of happiness in an unpredictable world. As time goes by, their effort for happiness becomes more and more uncertain. “Days and Nights” is performed by Kevin Mitchell Martin and Bina Sharif. The action of the play takes place in 2023.
TWO TRAMPS OCCUPY A ROOM IN AN ABANDONED DECREPIT BUILDING SOME WHERE IN MANHATTAN. THEY ARE EXTREMELY DISILLUSIONED AND PLAY GAMES OF SURVIVAL IN A VERY POSITIVE MANNER. THEY BELIEVE THAT SOME UNSEEN SOURCE BRINGS THEM HAPPINESS EVERYDAY AND THEY ARE VERY BLESSED FOR THAT, TILL ONE DAY WHEN THEIR MEAGER SURVIVAL IS THREATENED BY SOME OMINOUS AWARENESS OF VIOLENCE HAPPENING ALL AROUND THEM AND IN THE WORLD.
THE PLAY IS HILARIOUS AND ABSOLUTELY FUNNY ABOUT THEIR IGNORANCE OF REALITY IN SPITE OF THE FACT THAT THE PLAY HAS METAPHORICAL CONSCIOUSNESS OF UTMOST SERIOUSNESS. THESE TWO TRAMPS, PATRICK AND BARBRA ARE KNOWLEDGEABLE ESPECIALLY PATRICK WHO BEHAVES AS IF HE IS A SCHOLAR AND A HISTORIAN. IT IS A TOUR DE FORCE.
